This is a printer that is open source for download and printing for your own use! To turn plastic bottles (PET) into ready-to-print materials right away with a printer that allows you to download Open Source and print for your own use!

Because more than 90% of the world’s plastic waste comes from plastic (PET) bottles, wouldn’t it be better if a 3D printer might directly use this waste as raw material?

Designer Reiten Cheng designed this printer with great care. To reduce the recycling process as short as possible Because plastic bottles that are discarded become garbage. Before entering the recycling process It’s not just time wasted. but also the resources and energy required along the way.

The operation of the Polyformer machine can be divided into two main parts: Creating raw materials for printing Also known as plastic filament and the part that goes into printing.

Filament is most sensitive to moisture, which can result in uneven printing. Creating ready-to-use raw materials directly In theory, this reduces the storage process that is at risk of moisture. You can also produce only as much as you want.

The first step is when you get old plastic bottles that will be used to feed into the machine. The machine will cut the bottle into stripes first. When the machine catches the end of the plastic strip, it will automatically begin cutting into the production process. When the plastic stream passes through the internal heater, Those strands are melted and refined to form filaments and stored in the shuttle. When one bottle is empty, add the next bottle. The machine will weld those filaments into continuous lines until the bobbin is full. or as much as desired in use Then install the bobbin into the printer for use to complete the process.

Reiten Cheng intends to design this machine as Open Source, or an open platform that anyone can download and print to use. and can develop together Because these technologies still need a lot of development. Opening it up to Open Source also makes it easier for everyone to access these technologies. This will have a direct impact on a sustainable lifestyle that reaches into people’s daily lives. Imagine printing your own household tools, like a cork wrench, from scraps of old bottles you’ve collected over the weekend. It’s that easy.
