Current TNA World Heavyweight Champion and TNA World Tag Team Champion Nic Nemeth has defended the WWE Money in the Bank contract concept ahead of the upcoming October 10 event via Casino.org US, arguing that the 20-year-old stipulation remains a vital vehicle for elevating underdogs.
While acknowledging that some critics suggest the concept has run its course or should be held every other year, the former Money in the Bank winner stated that the stipulation provides a crucial opportunity for performers who may not yet have the full backing of company management.
Defending Money in the Bank
Addressing claims that the match type should be retired after two decades, Nemeth dismissed the notion in an exclusive interview. He explained that the contract gives a platform to wrestlers whom fans might question can reach the mountaintop, or those whom the office maybe is not quite ready to pull the trigger on.
In this case, something really special can either change someone’s career, have a special moment, or at least give somebody the idea of like, man, I don’t know that the boss likes me,
Nemeth said. He added that the concept creates true underdogs who can build momentum and prove they deserve a shot at becoming champion, noting that a holder can even cash in and not become champion.
Dream Signings for TNA
When asked which free agents he would like to see land in TNA, Nemeth named two specific wrestlers who have impressed him in the ring. The first is Ben Bishop, whom Nemeth described as a big man who can do a bunch of different things, noting you could put a mask on him and just have him choke slam everybody through the ring and like you’d still be very impressive.
Nemeth also highlighted Man Like DeReiss, recalling an independent match they had for OTT in Ireland. Blown away by the young competitor despite having never touched before, Nemeth praised him as a good listener who is smarter in the ring than he should be already, calling him a charismatic young kid who needs to get to TNA.
