Jean-Pierre Serre is a French mathematician born September 15, 1926 in Bages (PyrĂ©nĂ©es-Orientales). He is considered one of the greatest mathematicians of the 20th century. He received numerous awards for his research, including the Fields medal (The Fields medal is the most prestigious award for the recognition of work…) in 1954, making him the youngest to be awarded. He is also the first winner of the Abel Prize, created in 2003.
