[아이뉴스24 정종오 기자] The James Webb Space Telescope, which is currently observing the universe from a distance of 1.5 million km from Earth, will finally release its first image on the 12th (Eastern time in the United States). A list of observations was also presented.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has released a list of James Webb observations. The observation list includes nebulae, as well as galaxy clusters, planets, and other objects that can detect gravitational lensing, demonstrating that James Webb can image a variety of objects to uncover the secrets of the universe.

Earlier on the 7th, NASA slightly released images captured by James Webb’s ‘Fine Guidance Sensor’ (FGS). The clear and clear images that cannot be compared with previous space telescopes have provoked the resilience of related researchers. These images were taken by FGS in May.

NASA explained that this observation list includes everything from the Carina Nebula to planets.

The first is the Carina Nebula. It is the largest and brightest nebula. It is located 7,600 light years from Earth. Where stars are born The Carina Nebula is home to very massive stars and is several orders of magnitude larger than the Sun.

The second is the ‘WASP-96 b (spectrum)’ planet. This planet is made of gas and is regarding half the mass of Jupiter. The orbital period is 3.4 days. It is 1,150 light years away.

The third is the Southern Ring Nebula. The nebula spans 0.5 light-years across. It is regarding 2,000 light-years from Earth.

The fourth is Stephan’s Quintet. It is a dense cluster of galaxies 290 million light-years away. Since its discovery in 1877, it has attracted the attention of space scientists.

Finally, SMACS 0723. It is a huge cluster of galaxies where you can see the effect of gravitational lenses by magnifying and distorting the light of objects behind.

“The release of this first image of James Webb marks the official launch of a mission and demonstrates the ability to continue exploring key topics,” said a NASA spokesperson. will be provided,” he said.

“James Webb is the world’s best space telescope,” he added. “It will be possible to unravel the mysteries of our solar system, look at the distant world around other stars, and determine the mysterious structure and origin of the universe and our position in it.”

Meanwhile, James Webb is equipped with state-of-the-art scientific equipment focusing on infrared, such as near-infrared spectrometers and cameras, mid-infrared equipment, fine inductive sensors, near-infrared imagers, and slitless spectrometers.
