A financial accident worth billions of won was caught at a Saemaul Geumgo in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, and the police launched an investigation.
Gangneung Police Station announced that two employees of a branch of Saemaul Geumgo in Gangneung, who had been suspected of stealing 2.2 billion won in public funds for 10 years, surrendered yesterday and are investigating allegations of embezzlement and breach of trust.
Previously, the National Association of Saemaul Geumgo announced that in a recent special audit, it was discovered that there was a difference of regarding 2.2 billion won between the account books and the cash held at the branch, and that it is investigating whether the two employees embezzled or whether it is an accounting problem.
The employees, who have worked for nearly 30 years, are known to have explained that it was not because of embezzlement, but because of poor accounting.
