Ukrainian President Zelensky, nervous regarding a Russian invasion, and US President Biden, warning that an invasion of Russia will result in serious costs.
The two leaders held their third official phone consultation this year.
The talks took place one day following the end of an unprofitable phone conversation between the two heads of state, and President Zelensky requested a visit to his country in order to show his strong support for Ukraine.
“If you visit us within the next few days, it can be a strong signal and will help stabilize the situation in Ukraine,” he said.
In this regard, the US repeated its principled position while showing an ambiguous attitude.
The White House said, “The two leaders agreed on the importance of continuing to pursue diplomacy and deterrence in response to Russian military buildup,” the White House said without commenting on the invitation.
The Biden administration has repeatedly hinted at the possibility of a real Russian invasion of Ukraine.
[전 커비 / 미국 국방부 대변인] “I believe there will be a large-scale military action (Russia) soon. These evaluations are not only coming from within the intelligence service, but from various sources.”
Under these circumstances, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will visit Ukraine and Russia one following another to discuss ways to ease tensions.
However, as French President Macron recently went to Russia to meet with President Putin and did not find any significant breakthrough, it is unclear whether this visit will lead to a compromise.
