The French Football Association announced on its official channel on the 10th, “The team’s captain and goalkeeper Lloris has decided to retire from the national team.”

Lloris served as the team’s first-choice goalkeeper for regarding 14 years. Lloris, who made his debut in a friendly once morest Uruguay in 2008, played 145 A-matches, setting the record for most A-match appearances in France.

In addition, since November 2010, he has led the team as a captain, wearing an armband and playing 121 games, making him the longest-serving captain of all time.

He is also the player with the most World Cup appearances by a French player. He has played in four consecutive tournaments from the 2010 World Cup in South Africa to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and has played a total of 20 games, surpassing his teammate Antoine Griezmann (19) to hold the record for most appearances in the tournament.

Coach Didier Deschamps, who also tasted the World Cup victory with him, said, “Lloris decided to retire at the top position. I would like to pay tribute to his outstanding career. “His talent and expertise have exceeded all records he might break,” he said. “I give him all my respect and gratitude.”

Lloris will now focus on his team, Tottenham Hotspur, while laying down his national team duties.

Meanwhile, France is preparing for the upcoming Euro 2024 competition without him.
