[사회]Han Dong-hoon’s appointment process… One-point replacement expected from ‘Acting President’

[앵커]

President Yoon Seok-yeol seems to have entered the process of enforcing the appointment as he requested once more to send the hearing report of the Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon’s hearing by today (16th).

After one candidate is appointed, it is expected that the appointment of high-ranking positions will begin in earnest, starting with a one-point appointment request for the acting prosecutor general.

The deadline for re-sending the hearing report for the Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon is today (16th).

Even if the report is not adopted, a candidate may be appointed Minister starting tomorrow.

The appointment of a vice justice minister to assist a candidate was already completed last week.

[이노공 / 법무부 차관 (지난 13일) : 저는 앞으로 장관님을 보좌해 공정과 상식에 기반을 둔 법무행정의 참모습이 구현될 수 있도록 모든 노력을 다할 것입니다.]

It is the first time in six years since 2016 that the Minister of Justice and the Vice Minister are all from prosecutors.

Both have history of serving as deputy chiefs when President Yoon Seok-yeol was the chief of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office, so it is expected that the ‘Yun Seok-yeol division’ will be used in the future prosecution personnel.

What is urgently needed is the appointment of an acting prosecutor general.

In the so-called ‘check-and-run’ phase, Kim Oh-soo’s resignation was accepted, and the second-in-command, Park Seong-jin, deputy chief prosecutor of the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office also threw a second resignation.

Since the appointment of the president takes more than a month due to procedures such as the candidate recommendation committee and hearings, it is expected that one candidate will change from the deputy chief prosecutor to the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office through a one-point personnel request to minimize the work vacancy.

Prosecutors from the ‘Yun Seok-Yeol Division’ are the most likely candidates for the main position.

It is highly likely that Lee Du-bong, the Incheon District Prosecutor’s Office, Park Chan-ho, the Gwangju District Public Prosecutor’s Office, and Lee Won-seok, the Jeju District Prosecutor’s office will be selected for key positions, who worked together with President Yoon, the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office and the Central Prosecutors’ Office.

Daejeon High Prosecutor Yeo Hwan-seop and Gwangju High Prosecutor Jo Jung-tae are also names that go up and down steadily.

It is not the ‘Yun Seok-yeol line’, but Kim Hu-gon, the head of the Daegu District Prosecutor’s Office, who has been at the forefront in the so-called ‘check-and-run’ phase, is also being considered.

However, in the case of Chief Prosecutor Lee Du-bong, the fact that Yoo Woo-seong sued the Public Security Service as a party to the abuse of the prosecution right in the so-called ‘Seoul City Spy Manipulation’ case is a variable.

The personnel standards revealed by a candidate at the hearing also include a ‘willingness to be fair’, which is a part where the subjectivity of President Yoon and Han candidate can be strongly melted.

The Seoul High Prosecutor’s Office Chief Lee Seong-yoon and the Central Prosecutor’s Office Chief Lee Jeong-su, who were selected for key positions in the Moon Jae-in administration, are highly likely to be pushed out of the office, so a massive change in personnel is expected.
