[사회]From the surge in pulp prices to the exchange rate hike… ‘Crying’ over whether customers from the printing industry will leave

[앵커]

Due to the recent sharp rise in prices, the paper we commonly use has also been hit hard.

As the price of imported pulp rose by more than 50% and the exchange rate soared, the price of paper also soared.

Our printing industry has taken on that burden.

Reporter Dahyun Kim reports.

Chungmuro Printing Street was once bustling with customers and lively.

Now, only merchants who stand up day by day and keep their seats are just roaming the alleys.

Even if it wasn’t, I was drawing a downward curve with ‘document digitization’,

To make matters worse, as the price skyrocketed, it became difficult to even breathe.

The price of pulp, a raw material for paper, has risen more than 50% from last year.

In addition, the increase in import costs as the won-dollar exchange rate broke through 1,400 won also had a negative impact on the paper price.

It is unclear when the price will stabilize.

As the impact of the corona decreased, the demand for pulp increased, but

In Australia and Canada, which are major plantations, floods and wildfires overlap, making it difficult to supply raw materials.

The biggest problem is that it is difficult to raise the printing price as much as the increased paper price.

Although we raised the price list four times last year and two times this year, there are many parts that we feel sorry for our customers and suffer losses.

[박준선 / 인쇄 업체 대표 : 종이 가격이 많이 오르다 보니까 많이 어려움을 겪고 있죠. 거의 4차례 오르다 보니까 거래처와 관계도 (어렵고.)]

Businesses that can’t stand the bleeding are forced to leave their jobs for decades.

[박희철 / 인쇄 업체 대표 : 인쇄물 자체가 줄어들고 있어서 분위기가 많이 안 좋아요. 연세 드신 분들도 계시고 일이 없으니까 폐업하는 분들도 계시고.]

Print alley merchants have maintained their positions despite changes in the industrial structure.

Worries are growing whether it will be able to withstand the price burden that has risen by more than 50% in one year.
