Even ‘cupbap’, which was responsible for a cheap meal for civil servant exam preparation students, so-called ‘public servants’, is not avoiding the price increase at the price of a table rising without knowing the end.
The number of public officials who visit the academy is also on the decline, so the troubles of merchants are deepening.

This is Noryangjin Cupbap Street in Seoul.
Even cupbap, a favorite of public officials, has risen in price.
What is the atmosphere on site?

I watched the lunch hour in the middle of the business, but this street of cupbap has not regained its vitality.
Above all, I can’t hide my anguish from the faces of the merchants.
As international grain prices have risen due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, most of the ingredients for cup rice have soared in price.
The price of chicken in cupbap was regarding 32,000 won per 2 kg, but it doubled to 64,000 won, and the price of spam, an essential ingredient, has risen by more than 20%, according to merchants.
Flying fish roe, which is essential for a colorful texture, jumped from 10,000 won to 18,000 won per kg.
This is the reason why a merchant who has been protecting the Noryangjin Academy for 16 years and comforting the light pockets of ‘Gongsik students’ raised the price of 500 won for the first time.
The merchant next door also shared the same dilemma with the skyrocketing prices, so listen up.
[하현주 / 컵밥 가게 사장 : 안 오른 게 없어요. 오늘 물건 시키고 다음 날 되면 계산서 올 때 인상 예정 이렇게 나와요.]
The decrease in the number of ‘public students’ who visit the academy is also adding to the difficulties of merchants.
As the number of applicants for civil service exams has decreased and the trend of preferring online lectures over private institutes continues, the number of customers has decreased.
Some merchants who might not stand the frozen commercial district and the high price situation eventually closed the cupbap restaurant, increasing loneliness on the street.
