Record of the delivery process before and following the 2014 re-election
“Nam-wook, tell him to give cash to Lee’s closest aide”
Written in April 2020 before the Daejangdong Incident
As evidence of Lee’s side and Daejang-dong’s collusion
It was confirmed on the 29th that the prosecution had secured documents stating that the 5 billion won raised by lawyer Nam Wook between 2014 and 2015 was “for the purpose of Seongnam Mayor Lee Jae-myeong’s election expenses and Daejang-dong lobbying funds.” The document was written in April 2020, one year and five months before the Daejang-dong incident was revealed on the surface in September of last year, and was exchanged between Daejang-dong officials. This is the first time that material evidence has been confirmed to support the suspicion of involvement of Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party.
As a result of the Seoul Newspaper coverage, this five-page document, dated April 28, 2020, detailed the process of transferring funds from Daejang-dong official A to lawyer Nam around the June 2014 local elections. According to the document, Mr. A handed over a total of 5 billion won on several occasions, starting with 42 million won in cash on May 8, 2014 and ending with a check for 110 million won on April 3, 2015.
In particular, in the document, regarding fund transactions, “Attorney Nam said that cash would be delivered to Mayor Lee Jae-myung’s closest aide,” “Attorney Nam said that he needed cash to release the Seongnam mayor’s campaign funds and the license for the Daejang-dong project when he proposed raising funds.” contains the sentence In addition, it was also stated that “(the funds) are known to have been used for lobbying for the approval of the Daejang-dong project and for the Seongnam Mayor’s election expenses.”
The Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office’s Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 3 (Chief Kang Baek-sin) is said to have obtained the document in the process of investigating Daejang-dong officials. It is said that it was postmarked by the post office, so it was confirmed that it was actually sent between Daejang-dong officials. Attorney Nam is also in the position of “heard regarding the existence of the document following returning to Korea.”
Representative Lee’s side protested that the prosecution had been relying only on statements without physical evidence. Prosecutors are expected to use this document along with other personal and physical evidence during future trials as evidence to prove the close relationship between the Daejang-dong party, Lee’s side, Democratic Party leader Jeong Jin-sang, head of the Political Coordination Office, and Kim Yong, former vice president of the National Institute for Democracy. Regarding the point that the statements of the suspects have changed that day, an official from the prosecution said, “It is more important that the statements of the suspects and the objective human and physical evidence match.”
