[앵커]

Let’s go to the metropolitan area where the heavy rain warning is in effect.

It is said that Paldang Dam opens its sluice gate overnight and releases water. Reporter Im Seong-jae!

What is the current situation on site?

[기자]

Yes, heavy rain is pouring down here at Paldang Dam.

As a result, water like a waterfall is discharged.

As you can see behind me, I opened 5 of the 15 floodgates overnight.

Controlling the water level while continuously discharging the water flowing into the dam.

Currently, the Paldang Dam is discharging regarding 4,000 tons of water per second, including the discharge from power generation, as water flowing from the Bukhan and Namhan rivers increases.

At 5:30 in the morning, regarding 2,900 tons of water was discharged per second, which is an increase of regarding 1,000 tons.

Because of this, the planned flood level of the Paldang Dam was not reached at 27m, but it is still maintained at the level of 24m.

The Paldang Dam is a key facility for flood control on the Han River, and if more than 4,000 tons of water is discharged per second, Seoul Jamsu Bridge will go into a pedestrian control review.

It’s not yet controlled as the water has time to flow.

The water level of the Han River Jamsu Bridge is 4.6m as of 7:30 am.

When the water level rises to 5.5m, pedestrian traffic is controlled, and when it rises to 6.2m, vehicle traffic is controlled.

The Han River Flood Control Center explained that it is monitoring the amount of discharge from the Paldang Dam and the situation of rain.

However, some roads in downtown Seoul are controlled due to road flooding or pooling of water.

A heavy rain warning is in effect as it rains 30-50 mm per hour in Seoul and the metropolitan area, including here.

It rained more than 130mm from 0 am to 6 am in Geumcheon, Seoul and Gwanak in Seoul, and 190mm or more in Yongin Cheoin and Pyeongtaek Cheongbuk from the morning.

KHNP urged that thorough precautions should be taken to prevent damage to facilities or people near rivers due to floodgate discharge.

The meteorological authorities also have to check the flood risk area in advance as a lot of rain is predicted even during the rush hour, and cautioned regarding the possibility of collapse and flood damage in construction sites or slopes.
