The media from neighboring countries China and Japan are paying close attention to the emphasis on economic and technological alliances at the Korea-US summit between President Yoon Seok-yeol and US President Joe Biden.
In particular, in China, South Korea expressed its will to deter China together with the United States by changing its foreign policy, and it was also mentioned that retaliation may occur.

The Chinese media evaluated that the key to this summit was to upgrade the military alliance between the two countries to an economic and technological alliance.
Liu Heping, a critic of international affairs, analyzed in an interview with the media that it was a complete reorganization of the US-Korea relationship and meant that the direction of South Korea’s diplomatic strategy would be greatly adjusted.
In fact, he expressed concern that it meant that Korea, along with the United States, would deter China like Japan, and that it was foretelling decoupling with China, especially in the semiconductor field.
He also warned that changes in South Korea’s foreign policy would come at a cost in economic and trade relations between Korea and China and on the Korean Peninsula issue.
China’s state-run People’s Network also evaluated that it was unprecedented for President Biden to visit South Korea before the new president of South Korea and visit South Korea before Japan.
This is because the U.S. sees Biden’s visit to South Korea as a golden opportunity to engage South Korea on the frontline of pressure on China.
The Japanese media also noted that the leaders of the United States and South Korea agreed to cooperate in China’s strategy.
The Asahi Shimbun evaluated that President Yoon promised to deepen cooperation with the United States in economic security such as strengthening the supply chain and “clearly demonstrated his willingness to cooperate with the US-led public strategy by shifting away from the Moon Jae-in administration’s policy.”
Kyodo News also explained that South Korea and the United States are strengthening cooperation in the field of economic security because they are conscious of China.
He added that the mention of “the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait” in the joint statement also meant that it was holding China in check.
Jiji News reported that one of the hidden themes of the summit was improving relations between Japan and South Korea, and that President Biden indicated that he would also discuss it in Tokyo, indicating his intention to urge Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to improve relations.
