1 in 10 people in the world starve… “It will get worse in the future”

Last year, 1 in 10 people worldwide suffered from hunger, a study found.

This is a joint investigation by international organizations such as UN-affiliated organizations. It seems to be due to the impact of Corona 19, but this year, when the Ukraine war and the economic shock overlapped, is a bigger problem.

Reporter Ryu Jae-bok reports.

Kasula, a mother of two, is doing well today.

This is because even bean porridge can be boiled and eaten.

Every day is hell for the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo, one of the most abandoned refugees in the world.

Last year, 820 million people worldwide hunger

This is an increase of 150 million compared to 2019, before the COVID-19 outbreak.

1 in 10 people are in a situation where they have to worry regarding their meals.

In particular, 45 million children under the age of five suffer from chronic malnutrition.

It looks like things will get worse this year.

Because the war in Ukraine has disrupted international supply chains.

As grain prices rise, food supplies to poor African countries are further reduced.

Experts, including the United Nations, warn that conflict, climate change and economic shocks, combined with inequality, might lead to the worst hunger ever.
