Zverev and Tsitsipas in the Rome semifinals

Alexander Zverev made it to the semifinals at the Masters 1000 tournament in Rome on Friday. The 25-year-old Olympic tennis champion defeated the Chilean clay court specialist Cristian Garin 7:5 6:2. The German number one only had some difficulties in the first set, but fought through. In the second section, Zverev made two quick breaks, which broke Garin’s resistance.

“It was a high-level match,” said Zverev. “It wasn’t always pretty to look at, but I got my job done. I’m very happy to be in the semifinals.” In the fight for the final, Zverev will face Stefanos Tsitsipas on Saturday. The Greek prevailed once morest the Italian Jannik Sinner 7: 6 (7/5) 6: 2.

The third semi-finalist is Norway’s Casper Ruud, number five, who defeated Denis Shapovalov (CAN/13) 7:6 (9/7) 7:5. In the semifinals, Ruud meets the winner of the game Novak Djokovic (SRB/1) – Felix Auger-Aliassime (CAN/8).
