PT Zurich General Takaful Indonesia (Zurich Syariah) recorded significant growth in Umrah travel insurance policies throughout the period of January-May 2024 reaching 62% compared to the same period the previous year. Not only that, the value of Hajj travel insurance contributions also increased by 18% throughout the 2024 Hajj season.

Amidst this significant growth momentum, one of Zurich Syariah’s leading products, namely Zurich Syariah Travel Insurance International, also recorded a satisfactory increase in the number of policies throughout January-May 2024, reaching 85% compared to the same period in the previous year.

This sharia protection product for worldwide travel is supported by the Halal Trip Directory service, a digital sharia directory that provides maps and travel guides for Muslim tourists, both domestically and abroad, such as a list of halal restaurants, locations of the nearest mosques, hospitals, and teleconsultation with specialist doctors.

“The positive growth that we have achieved is proof of the great trust that our customers have in us. This also drives us to continue to present products and services that suit our customers’ needs,” said President Director of Zurich Syariah, Hilman Simanjuntak.

In 2023, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia recorded the highest number of Umrah pilgrims in the last 5 years, reaching 13.5 million pilgrims, growing 58% compared to the previous year.

In the same period, travel insurance from Zurich Syariah also became the dominant choice of Umrah pilgrims reaching more than 20% of the total Umrah pilgrims from Indonesia. This growth further confirms Zurich Syariah’s position as a market leader in the Islamic insurance industry, especially in the Umrah travel segment.

In 2024, the Saudi Arabian government is targeting the number of arrivals of Umrah pilgrims from Indonesia to increase to 2 million pilgrims. This belief is supported by the growing trend of Umrah travel packages plus tours to other countries around Saudi Arabia, such as Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Arab Emirates.

“Halal lifestyle has become a necessity for Indonesian people, especially Muslims. Through the Halal Trip Directory service that can be accessed by Zurich Syariah Travel Insurance customers through the QR code listed on their electronic policies, customers will be increasingly pampered with the ease and convenience of determining their halal travel destinations,” concluded Hilman.
