Zurich–Oslo: Emergency call made – Swiss machine has to turn back shortly after takeoff

Swiss flight LX1210 from Zurich to Oslo had to turn back shortly following take-off at 10:37 a.m. The machine began its return flight to Zurich over the German town of Krauchenwies.

Shortly following takeoff, the pilots noticed an irregularity in one of the engines, as Swiss reported on request. However, the cause of this is still unknown. As a precautionary measure, it was decided to return to Zurich where the flight landed safely at 11.11am. At no time was there any danger to passengers and crew, according to Meike Fuhlrott, media spokeswoman for Swiss. A replacement aircraft will be provided for the flight to Oslo.

The pilot radioed the code 7700. This is used to indicate an emergency. on Live ATC you might hear the radio message: “Mayday mayday mayday, engine failure, I call you back, Swiss 1210 Roger.”

The flight was on the website Flightradar24.com watched closely and was the most watched flight worldwide for a while. Over 7000 people followed the flight route.
