The Zurich Lions, eliminated in the semi-finals of the playoffs by Biel, have hired Latvian striker Rudolfs Balcers (26). He signed for a season with the Zurichers.

The international winger arrives from the NHL. Last season, he played 14 games for the Florida Panthers (4 points) and 3 games for the Tampa Bay Lightning (1 point). He mostly battled in the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch (41 games/16 points).

A few weeks ago, he managed, with the Latvian team, to snatch the bronze medal at the World Championship. He had scored nine points during the World Cup.

Balcers had previously played under Zurich Lions coach Marc Crawford. During the 2018-2019 season, with Ottawa, he made his NHL debut under the guidance of the Canadiens, first as assistant coach and then as head coach.
