Zulqarnain Haider’s demand for lifetime ban on Umar Akmal and confiscation of property

Wicket keeper batsman Zulqarnain Haider also entered the field in the matter of banning Umar Akmal in the match fixing case.

Zulqarnain Haider termed Umar Akmal’s 3-year ban as too low and demanded that Umar Akmal should be banned for life.

Zulqarnain Haider demanded that all properties of Umar Akmal should be confiscated. In 2010, these people threatened me. I was young and could not bear the pressure.

Zulqarnain Haider said that this is a whole mafia group, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will have to take strict action against them, they are the same people who have put obstacles in my career path.

The wicket-keeper batsman said that I am playing cricket and I am hopeful to return to cricket, I am appealing to the chairman PCB and Arbab Akhtar to give me a chance.

It should be noted that in November 2010, Zulqarnain Haider suddenly left the team and went to London during the one-day series between Pakistan and South Africa in Dubai.

After reaching London, Zulqarnain said that he and his family were being threatened with death by the match fixers, due to which he had to leave the national team and come to London.

Later, Zulqarnain Haider also filed a request for political asylum in the UK, in which he took the stand that his life was in danger in Pakistan, so he could not return to the country, however, the then Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik provided security. Zul-Qarnain returned to Pakistan in April after being assured of delivery.

After his return to the country, the Pakistan Cricket Board had established a disciplinary committee to review the matter and ordered him to appear before it.

Later, the head of the disciplinary committee Sultan Rana held a press conference along with Zulqarnain and said that the wicketkeeper admitted his mistake and apologized and withdrew all the allegations against the board.

He also said that considering the circumstances of Zulqarnain, the committee decided to deal with the matter on the basis of sympathy and imposed a fine of five lakh rupees on him. Sultan Rana had said at that time that Zulqarnain Haider can return to cricket and is also eligible to play for the national team, but his behavior will be monitored for a year.

On this occasion, Zulqarnain said that it was his mistake to leave the national team in Dubai and he should have communicated his concerns to the team management at the same time.
