Zuliano dies in the Darién

The victim was dragged by the current of a river, which had increased its flow following the rains.

A Venezuelan died this Sunday night in the Darién jungle, an area that the Panamanian authorities have considered “very dangerous” and recommend not to use in transit to the US border.

The victim was identified as Larry Bastidas Guanipa, who was born in Zulia state.

Relatives provided information regarding the death on Twitter, where they wrote that “he was dragged by one of the swollen rivers.”

They also indicated on the social network that “the group he was with rescued him, he was given first aid, but unfortunately a heart attack ended his life.”

The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Zulia (LUZ) mourned the death of Bastidas, who was alternate president of the Employees’ Trade Union Association (Asdeluz) and a member of the administrative staff attached to the Academic Vice President.

A week ago, in Darién, Zulian Alexandra Rodríguez, who was from El Moján, Mara municipality, lost her life, according to the Panorama newspaper.

Rodríguez also died crossing a river, following rescuing one of his daughters.
