Holidays as a loyalty bonus: That’s what it’s all regarding

  • Anyone who has worked at Remimag Gastronomy for two years and remains with the company receives a sixth week of vacation.

  • The family business introduced the four-day week two years ago.

  • The sixth week of vacation is a loyalty bonus to retain qualified specialists and find new ones, says the co-managing director.

Remimag Gastronomie AG, based in Rothenburg, which runs 20 restaurants and hotels in Switzerland, introduced a four-day week two years ago. Now the family business is going one step further and granting loyal employees six weeks of vacation.

Six weeks of vacation as a loyalty bonus

The new holiday regulations have been in effect since the beginning of the year. However, employees only benefit from the additional week of vacation from the third year of employment. “With the introduction of the sixth week of vacation, we want to offer our employees an additional loyalty bonus in order to retain and find qualified specialists in the future,” the company quoted its co-managing director Bastian Eltschinger in a statement.

Skilled labor shortage “more drastic than ever”

According to its own statements, the company wants to increase its attractiveness in the job market. The shortage of skilled workers in the catering industry is “more drastic than ever” and there is a fierce battle for qualified workers. That’s why you have to meet the needs of skilled workers and think ahead when it comes to employment conditions, says the company.

It didn’t work for these companies

The Hotel Schweizerhof in the Graubünden holiday resort of Lenzerheide also tried the four-day week – and failed. The hotel first tested her in the kitchen team. However, the planning turned out to be difficult. In order to cover all shifts, the hotel would have needed up to 25 percent more employees, says Schweizerhof deputy boss Jamie Rizzi. Three metal construction companies in the cantons of Aargau and Lucerne also tested the four-day week – and stopped the experiment shortly following it started.

It worked here

Other companies are also experimenting with new holiday regulations. At Comfortfloor from Rickenbach LU, for example, there is no one in the office on Friday. The star hairdresser Ajkune has also introduced the four-day week, as has the care company Glarus Süd Care.
