Zsombor Vég lost in the round of 16, finishing unplaced at the Olympics

The juggler Zsombor Vég lost in the round of 16

In the round of 16, Nikoloz Sherazadishvili, who was born in Georgia and came to Spain at the age of 14, was waiting for him. The rival, a two-time world champion in 90 kilos, won his second World Cup gold in Budapest in 2021, and this year – among the 100 kilos – he was a World Cup bronze medalist in Abu Dhabi.

The 28-year-old Spaniard won their two matches so far, but quickly fell behind in the third, because the 22-year-old Hungarian juggler was penalized for turning his leg at 20 seconds. At the one minute mark, Vég performed an inside hamstring throw, but his opponent caught him, and moreover, the action took place outside the area. Two minutes into the match, the Spaniard pushed down his Hungarian opponent, who somehow managed to get out of it, but Sherazadishvili received a vazari for the 13-second action. The lead was still there, but later it was lost due to a pull, and with 1:23 minutes left, Vég’s inside thigh throw was countered by the Spaniard, and his throw hit another Vazari, which meant the end of the match.

Zsombor Vég is a little disappointed, he wanted to reach the top eight

In the first round, the Hungarian starter in the 100 kilogram weight group won a nice victory over the European champion Aleksandar Kukolj of Serbia in a tactical match, and then lost in the eventful second match against the two-time world champion, this year’s World Cup bronze medalist Nikoloz Sherazadishvili of Spain.

Zsombor Vég won in the first round in a difficult situation

It didn’t work out, even though I felt it could. I’m a bit disappointed. I put everything on the mat, I thought it would be enough”

– he declared in the mixed zone. He was particularly saddened by his elimination, because it was not that he “went up and was cut” on the tatami mat, and that he even led.

He said that when he got stuck in the squeeze, it took a lot out of him to get out. He was prevented from doing so by the left shoulder of the injured person, which had a fastener on it. As he recalled, he had a partial tear before, but he recovered from it, but during his training camp in January, he “torn completely”.

Even with the throw that decided the match, he couldn’t do what he should have because of his shoulder.

“I started it, and unfortunately my shoulder got stuck, I actually turned myself, he just accompanied me down, but that’s why I needed him too,” he recounted what happened.

He was also disappointed because he thought he was in a favorable position, he met and clashed with people whose style did not suit him, and he also started the day wanting to get into the top eight.

Regarding the future, he said that an operation awaits him at home, and the recovery will take six to seven months, which means that he will probably only be able to recover for next year’s World Championships in Budapest.
