Zsombor Vég: I gave my all, I thought it would be enough

In the first round, the Hungarian starter in the 100 kilogram weight group won a nice victory over the European champion Aleksandar Kukolj of Serbia in a tactical match, and then lost in the eventful second match against the two-time world champion, this year’s World Cup bronze medalist Nikoloz Sherazadishvili of Spain.

“It didn’t work out, even though I felt it could. I’m a bit disappointed. I put everything on the mat, I thought it would be enough,” he said in the mixed zone. He was particularly saddened by his elimination, because it was not that he “went up and was cut” on the tatami mat, and that he even led.

He said that when he got stuck in the squeeze, it took a lot out of him to get out. He was prevented from doing so by the left shoulder of the injured person, which had a fastener on it. As he recalled, he had a partial tear in it before, but he recovered from it, but during his training camp in January, it was “completely torn”.

Even with the throw that decided the match, he couldn’t do what he should have because of his shoulder.

“I started it, and unfortunately my shoulder got stuck, I actually turned myself, he just accompanied me down, but that’s why I needed him too,” he relived what happened.

He was also disappointed because he thought he was in a favorable position, he met and clashed with people whose style did not suit him, and he also started the day wanting to get into the top eight.

Regarding the future, he said that an operation awaits him at home, and the recovery will take six to seven months, which means that he will probably only be able to recover for next year’s World Championships in Budapest.
