INDONESIAN men’s 100-meter sprint athlete Lalu Muhammad Zohri complained regarding the athletic training arena at the Madya Stadium, Jakarta, which is being used to prepare for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The training field is considered inadequate due to the installation of a stage and the use of the stadium for other activities.
“Now (I feel) such a burden (because the Madya Stadium field is used for soccer practice and the installation of a stage around the stadium),” said Zohri to the media crew when met following undergoing training at the Madya Stadium in the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) area in Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday.
He said, the day before, the use of the Madya Stadium was also quite busy for a number of activities such as runners, Malut United soccer team training, and women’s national soccer team training.
When there are football activities in the Madya Stadium, Zohri and his colleagues have to move to a training ground around the stadium, but currently there are also activities to install an entertainment stage.
He said that this condition was quite an obstacle in preparing for training for the Paris Olympics, which had regarding two weeks left.
“That’s a bit of an obstacle for me because I really have to prepare myself (for the 2024 Paris Olympics), so yes, it’s a bit of an obstacle,” he said.

When asked regarding other more adequate training arenas, Zohri said that if possible, he might train at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, but he did not know whether the relevant parties permitted it or not.
Indonesian national athletics training coach Eni Nuraini also admitted that Zohri and his friends’ training activities were hampered by the condition of the arena which was being used for other activities.
“Yes, that’s it, we got the field but it turned out to be like this (used for other activities) so it can’t be used specifically for athletics because it’s still disturbed by football (practice), disturbed by concerts,” he said.

He said that there are other athletic training arenas such as in Pangalengan, West Java, but the arena in the hilly area is more suitable for long-distance running or marathon training activities.
“If it is for sprinters, moving it to Pangalengan is also not suitable, ideally it would be in Jakarta,” he said.
Eni hopes that the conditions experienced in athletic preparation will be of concern to stakeholders because athletics is also required to provide the best results at the world’s highest sporting competition in Paris. (Ant/P-5)
