Switzerland might hardly have dreamed of a better day this Saturday, during the European BMX Championships in Besançon. The Swiss delegation pocketed no less than three medals in the different categories.
The most brilliant result came from Zoé Claessens (22). The Vaudoise took first place in the Elite Ladies race, ahead of Dane Malene Kjelstrup and Dutch Merel Smulders. Here she is on the roof of Europe for the second time in her young career, following the title won in 2021 in Zolder (Belgium). Silver medalist at the World Championships in 2022, Claessens consolidates her place among the top names in her discipline. A good omen one year from the Paris Olympics.
At the same time, Bern’s Nadine Aeberhard (21) was crowned in the U23s. On the men’s side, Zurich’s Filib Steiner (19) took silver, behind Frenchman Mathis Jacquet.
In addition to this excellent record, there are other fine Swiss performances: behind Zoé Claessens, Geneva’s Thalya Burford (19) ranked 6th among the Elite ladies. The young Nord-Vaudois Alexandre Emmel (16 years old) came very close to a podium in Junior (4th), while the Thurgovian Cédric Butti (23 years old) and the Bernese Loris Aeberhard (24 years old) took 7th and 8th places in the Elite category. As for the younger sister of Zoé Claessens, Inès (18), she rose to a promising 7th place in the Juniors.
