ALGIERS- The Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Tayeb Zitouni was received, Tuesday in Kampala (capital of Uganda), by the President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, as part of his participation, charged by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, with the work of the 2nd African Coffee Summit, indicates a press release from the ministry.
During this hearing, Mr. Zitouni conveyed “the greetings of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune to his brother Mr. Yoweri Museveni”, adds the same source.
This meeting focused on economic and trade relations between the two countries, “affirmed by the two presidents during the last visit of the Ugandan president to Algeria which was sanctioned by the signing of several memoranda of understanding in many sectors”, according to the same source.
The Minister, in this context, reviewed “the products that will be included in trade between the two countries within the framework of the encouragement of bilateral trade between Algeria and Uganda”.
The Ugandan president, for his part, underlined his “willingness to intensify communication and work to promote and raise economic cooperation between the two countries to the level of privileged political relations”.
Moreover, and during his participation in the opening of the work of the “2e Coffee Summit”, Mr. Zitouni affirmed that the presence of Algeria at this important meeting “intervenes in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic, on the orientation of commercial exchanges towards Africa”, underlining that President Tebboune has always been for the consolidation and strengthening of inter-African trade, the need to industrialize the raw materials available to African States at the local level and the increase in the rate of African integration in terms of industrialization”.
- Zitouni also stressed “the need to intensify the efforts of all African States, with a view to protecting African economic sovereignty and encouraging import and export between these States for a strong African economy, in view of the potential available to the continent”.
The Minister also affirmed that “Algeria proposes to bring together the African States producing and consuming coffee, during the 3rd edition of this summit decided for next year, with a view to encouraging African consumption”.
According to the ministry, the opening of the work of the “2nd African Coffee Summit” took place Tuesday in Kampala, with the participation of 25 African coffee producing States, under the chairmanship of the Ugandan President, with a view to examining and discuss the challenges facing this important agricultural sector.
