Zion Williamson to max contract at New Orleans Pelicans

His last game on an NBA floor dates back to May 4, 2021, but Zion Williamson is heading for a juicy overtime with New Orleans. According to the journalist The Athletic Shams Charania, the Pelicans and their young winger (1.98m, 21 years old) have agreed on a five-year contract and 231 million dollars (222 million euros). Williamson and the Louisiana franchise are finalizing the lease details, which will run through 2027-28.

First choice of the NBA draft in 2019, the strong winger saw a start to his professional career disrupted by injuries. Absent for the first three months of the 2019-2020 fiscal year, Williamson had followed up on an excellent 2020-2021 season (27 points, 7.2 rebounds) which had earned him an All-Star Game selection. But his third season was nipped in the bud by a slower-than-expected right foot injury. Without him, the Pelicans slipped through to the first round of the 2022 play-offs, beaten by Phoenix (2-4).
