Information continues to multiply and contradict each other regarding Zion Williamson. This time it’s the leader of the Pels – David Griffin – who spoke for put an end to all transfer rumours.
It’s no secret that the Zion Williamson case isn’t the easiest to handle. After two delicate last seasons, the New Orleans star has been at the heart of many rumors and discussions since the beginning of the summer. But according to vice president of basketball operations David Griffin, there was never any talk of a transfer.
“We never had a single transfer discussion regarding Zion. […] It’s unfortunate that his name gets so many clicks, no matter what the article says. ‘Zion puts on his socks’. People click on that. So it’s easy for people to create rumors around him.” David Griffin on SiriusXM NBA Radio
A very nice statement… but should we believe what Mr. Griffin says? At the start of the summer, the insider of The Athletic Shams Charania had announced that the Pels strongly considered the possibility of transferring Zion to recover the pick 2 of the Draft and select Scoot Henderson. In the end, nothing happened, but following the Draft, the rumors continued with extra-sporting stories that added fuel to the fire.
We are not going to tell the case in detail but to make it short, Zion was posted by an X actress on the networks, which should not have helped the leaders of New Orleans to have confidence in their star. A few days later, the journalist fromESPN Brian Windhorst has indeed announced that the Pels continue to study transfer possibilities. Probably not a coincidence when we know that it is especially off the field that the Williamson case poses a problem.
That makes, at the very least, 4-5 different reporters around the NBA or the Pelicans who recently leave blanks and sighs when the subject Zion Williamson is mentioned.
And the terms that come up time following time: seriousness, professionalism and entourage.
It’s very tense.

When he’s in gear and basketball, Zion gets everyone on board. Averaging 26 points, 7 rebounds and 4.6 assists at 60.8% shooting this season, he showed he was one of the best players in the league. The problem is that he only played 29 games, despite having already missed the entire 2021-22 financial year.. In total, the 2020 Draft pick 1 has played only 114 games over the last three seasons. It’s starting to make a lot of missed games, and despite what the main interested party says, one wonders if he is making all the necessary efforts to be in top form.
Despite this, NOLA continues to believe in its star according to David Griffin, who added that his relationship with the rest of the team is still going strong. In short, everything is fine with the Pelicans, who intend to leave for one more season with their star… until new transfer rumors emerge?
