Zina, sexologist against taboos: “Sexuality is not about lighting candles and putting on sexy underwear”

After her midwifery studies, Zina Hamzaoui realizes that many women do not know their bodies and have a lot of taboos around sexuality.

She decides to study sexology at UCL, to offer a complete service to her patients. “Many women do not know their own body as they live in it on a daily basis. I work a lot with diagrams, reproductions of the pelvis; I propose exercises with props.

In his office, women and men, alone. or as a couple, confide in particular on taboos family and cultural around sexuality.

“We often think that our taboos are linked to a type of family, religion or culture; but in fact, when we talk to people, we realize that everyone has the same taboos.”

On his Instagram account and in his self-published book “Chut! Hshouma (note: “Hshouma is a Moroccan dialect word. It can be translated as “shame”), Zina addresses these taboos, frankly: the myth of virginity, incest, erection problems, lack of desire

Through her work, Zina wants sexual health to be considered like any other health issue. “You have to tell yourself that it’s like going to the dentist for your oral health.”

WHO also recognizes sexual health as a fundamental issue : Sexual health is understood as a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasant and safe sexual experiences, free from coercion, discrimination and violence.
