According to the report, he was a person whose great efforts and work led to the revival of the Jewish library and cultural center in Vilnius.
“Ž. Beliauskas was the soul of the Vilnius Jewish Public Library, the life engine, source of ideas and initiatives of this library, which later joined the National Library and became its branch. Thanks to the manager’s initiatives and a wide circle of contacts, many interesting, unique, authentic events took place here: exhibitions, seminars, lectures, artistic performances.
Ž. Beliauskas, who had an education as a psychologist and taught at Mykolas Riomeris University for many years, eventually dedicated himself only to the development of the library, because he saw a great meaning and mission in it. He was always surrounded by people, friends, associates and easily involved people in the life of the library,” the library’s Facebook post reads.
In the Vilnius Jewish Public Library, Ž. Beliauskas created a friendly, open space for knowledge and communication, where both employees and visitors feel great.
The departure of Ž. Beliauskas is a great loss both for the Vilnius Jewish Public Library and for everyone who knew him personally.
“We are saddened by the painful loss and express our condolences to the family, relatives and friends of Ž. Beliauskas. Rest in peace, dear Žilvina. We promise to continue the activities you started,” the library said.
