Formula 1 RACER from the Kick Sauber team, Zhou Guanyu, can’t wait to appear in his home race, namely the Chinese GP at the Shanghai International Circuit, this weekend.

Quoted from the official Formula 1 website, Friday (19/4), Zhou admitted that he was motivated to get points during his debut race in China, through the Sprint Race format.

“Two opportunities this weekend with a Sprint Race format. It sounds very interesting, even though there hasn’t been much practice following missing several years at this track. But I believe we have potential,” said Zhou.

“I can’t wait to race for the first time on this track tomorrow. Although I have been very busy lately but so far I have had a lot of fun,” he added.

Zhou himself is the first Chinese racer to compete in the premier class car racing event. He made his Formula 1 debut in 2022.

The 24-year-old racer also said that China’s return to the Formula 1 calendar following four years was something to be proud of.

“It’s great to be back, it’s great to be able to see all the track facilities where I used to be on the other side of the circuit here, watching in the stands, being an F1 fan, and then coming back here as an F1 driver,” said Zhou.

Furthermore, the Shanghai-born racer then recalled how he developed an interest in this racing sport since childhood, and tried his luck in competing from karting to Formula 1.

Having waited until his third season in F1 to race in China, Zhou anticipates the main race on Sunday (21/4) might be an emotional moment, although he stressed that his focus remains on the track.

“When I realized that the home race wouldn’t happen for the second year in a row, my focus was just on trying to do my best. I knew there would be mixed emotions this weekend, especially on Sunday when the national anthem was played and the memories reflected in my mind,” Zhou explained.

“However, as a racer, I think the most important and critical thing is to do the right job on the track, try to score points, give the maximum results that I have. I feel we have potential,” he concluded. (Ant/Z-1)
