Zheng Jie wins women’s singles gold medal for Chinese team

Matthew Ebden and John Pierce fought back from a break to win Olympic gold for Australia against Americans Austin Krajicek and Rajiv Rahm in the men’s doubles match in Paris.

In the first to ten tiebreakers, they won the fourth match point 6-7 (6-8) 7-6 (7-1) 10-8.

Pearce, the former doubles partner of Great Britain’s Jamie Murray, added another gold medal by winning bronze in the mixed doubles event in Tokyo with Ash Barty.

Rahm, 40, who won four Grand Slam doubles titles with Briton Joe Salisbury, missed out on his first Olympic gold.

The U.S. also went on to win bronze, with Tyler Fritz and Tommy Paul defeating Great Britain’s Andy Murray and Dan Evans in the quarterfinals, 6-3 6-4. Czech pair Tomas Machak and Adam Pavlasek.
