ZF has worked with electric vehicle manufacturer Tevva to develop a regenerative electronic braking system for a 7.5-ton truck. The result is a system that recuperates up to four times more energy than a conventional air brake system, thereby optimizing the range of the Tevva truck. The implementation of the EBS (Electronic Brake System) enables recuperation powers of up to 180 kW, while the passive regeneration of the conventional air brake was limited to around 40 kW for safety reasons. Testing of the customized system, which took place at the ZF test track in Jeversen, covered a variety of conditions, inclines and surface types.
Tevva started series production of its battery-electric 7.5-ton truck for inner-city distribution at its London plant this year. The vehicle with 105 kWh battery capacity has a range of almost 230 kilometers. A version with a fuel cell as a range extender is to follow. (awm)
