The Guinness Book of Records awarded the Great Dane “Zus”, a two-year-old dog, the title of the world’s tallest dog, with a length of 1,046 meters, and he lives in Bedford, Texas, USA.
Zeus officially earned the title on March 22, after a vet measured his length from claw to shoulder and fixed it.
Owner Brittany Davis says she’s always dreamed of owning a huge Dane named Zeus, and she was overjoyed when her brother brought her the puppy just 8 weeks after he was born. Although his large size initially worried her, she soon fell in love with him, according to CNN Arabia.
Davis Zeus described to Guinness World Records as “a huge size for a puppy, since she first set eyes on him. His paws were huge.”
Zeus’s Olympic diet includes 12 cups of Gentle Giants dog food a day, plus fried eggs and food sticks. His favorite toy is ice cubes, says Davis.
The brown and gray giant was now a local celebrity, receiving great attention and special treatment when he and Davis visited the Dallas Farmer Market.
“The comments we often hear are: ‘Oh, that’s a horse!’, ‘Can I ride it?’, ‘Does it have a saddle?’ The answer to these questions is no, always,” Davis noted.
According to the American Kennel Club, the Great Dane is descended from medieval hunting dogs. It is known that they are the longest, but they are more susceptible to health diseases, and may live for a shorter period than other dogs.
Last year, Freddy, the Great Dane, died at the age of 8. He was the world’s tallest dog in the Guinness Book of Records, with a length of 3 feet 4 inches (103.5 centimeters) from paw to shoulder. He lived in Essex, England. When standing on his hind legs, he was 7 feet 5.5 inches (226 centimeters) tall.
And the Guinness Book of Records pointed out that the tallest dog in the world at all belongs to the Great Dane breed, also called Zeus. He stood 3 feet 10 inches (111.8 cm) tall.
