Zero Hunger is underway at the Itapúa school

Asuncion, IP Agency.- Girls, boys and adolescents from the San Roque González de Santa Cruz Elementary School No. 2726, in the Alto Vera – Itapúa district, received comprehensive care from the Ministry of Health within the framework of the Zero Hunger program.

Some 88 students were assessed for nutritional status through the Food and Nutrition Surveillance System (Sisvan), a system that provides current and timely information on the food and nutritional status of the population, with weight, height and abdominal circumference monitoring, which will allow establishing a baseline at the start of the program.

The Expanded Immunization Program (EPI) was responsible for immunizing the school population. This ensures that everyone has the complete vaccination schedule and thus keeps children protected.

In turn, Health Promotion representatives shared the Healthy School strategy and provided guidance on healthy eating.

The water supply and sanitation services at the educational institution, which is a priority of the program, were verified on site.

The Zero Hunger program of the National Government is part of the Healthy School Strategy and brings together various areas of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare, in order to respond to the needs identified in educational institutions.

Healthy Schools are those that permanently reinforce the capacities for the comprehensive development of schoolchildren and their environment in their different physical, social, mental and spiritual dimensions.
