Formed from the embers of a past betrayal, Zéro Absolu emerges with “La Saignée,” a powerful debut statement that redefines black metal and carves its own unique path.
This isn’t just a band name change; it’s a reinvention. Originally known as Glaciation, the group faced the unscrupulous actions of a former member who stole their identity and claimed it as their own. Forced to evolve, Zéro Absolu rose from the ashes, resolute to fight back against the toxicity plaguing the black metal scene. “La Saignée,” their debut,is strikingly personal,a defiant roar against those who seek to tear it down. As the musicians describe it, the lyrics are a direct confrontation with “both of [their] enemies.” This battle cry resonates throughout the album, infused with an intensity that’s palpable.
The album art,a haunting photograph captured after the devastating fire that ravaged Noeseblod (formerly Helvete) Records in Oslo last April, isn’t merely a visual choice—it’s a symbolic tapestry woven into the fabric of the band’s narrative.”La saignée” isn’t just an album; it’s a statement of resilience, forged in the fires of adversity.
A potent blend of evocative black metal with post-black metal influences, Zéro Absolu creates a sound that reverberates with raw power. While the vocals, a whirlwind of snarls and screams, lack accompanying lyrics in a language I am unfamiliar with, the sincere passion they convey is undeniable. The music itself speaks volumes.Melodic refrains rise and fall with sweeping grandeur, oscillating between explosive tremolo picking and introspective moments of quiet resonance. It’s a dynamic journey that mirrors the emotional excavation at the heart of “La Saignée.”
Beyond the furious intensity, Zéro Absolu weaves in ethereal textures and chillingly gorgeous synths, creating layers of depth and complexity. These eerie soundscapes, at times melancholic, at times unnerving, contribute to the album’s overall sense of intrigue and emotional resonance.
“La Saignée” is a testament to the power of music to transcend language and connect with the listener on a visceral level.it’s a moving, immersive experience that lingers long after the final note fades away. For Zéro Absolu, “La Saignée” isn’t merely a debut; it’s a powerful statement of intent, a blazing declaration of their arrival on the black metal scene. And it’s a welcome one.

What inspired the creation of Zéro Absolu?
Zéro Absolu Rise From The Ashes: An Interview with aelius
Black metal titans Zéro Absolu stormed onto the scene with their visceral debut album, “La Saignée,” born from the ashes of past betrayals. Here, Archyde speaks with aelius, vocalist for Zéro Absolu, about the album’s themes, the band’s evolution, and the future of black metal.
Beyond the Fury: A Reservoir of Emotions
Aelius, “La saignée” is a powerful statement, drenched in raw emotion. How woudl you describe the thematic heart of this album?
“La Saignée” is a confrontation – a direct one – with our enemies, both past and present. It’s about the catharsis that comes from facing betrayal, from rising above hardship and adversity. There’s anger, of course, but there’s also a sense of defiance, a determination to forge our own path and define our own identity. We wanted to channel all those powerful emotions into something tangible, something that resonated with listeners on a visceral level.
Reinvention: From Glaciation to Zéro Absolu
Many know about your group’s history with Glaciation and the unfortunate events that led to this reinvention. How has that experience shaped Zéro Absolu’s sound and ethos?
That betrayal was a brutal wake-up call. It forced us to confront the darkness that exists within some corners of the black metal scene. But it also ignited a fire in us, a burning desire to prove ourselves, to create something authentic and powerful. We wanted to build a band that stood for something more, that wasn’t afraid to scream our truths into the void. Zéro Absolu is the result of that cleansing fire, a phoenix rising from the ashes. The music is a reflection of that journey – it’s raw, it’s honest, and it’s unapologetically defiant.
A Symbiotic Art Form: The Connection Between Music and Visuals
The album art for “La Saignée” is incredibly powerful, evocative, and deeply connected to the band’s experience. How did you choose this imagery, and what role does it play in conveying the album’s message?
The fire that ravaged Noeseblod was a tragedy,a devastating loss for the black metal community. But it also resonated with us on a deeper level. We saw in the chaos and destruction a reflection of the pain and anger we were channeling into the music. That image – the smoldering ruins, the raw energy, the haunting beauty – it felt like a perfect encapsulation of “La Saignée.” The art isn’t just an aesthetic choice; it’s a visceral reminder of the fire that forged us, a testament to our resilience
