Zeman from the hospital: I will fulfill your wish, I will not leave Czech politics

“To all of you who have given me good wishes for my recovery, I thank you very much for those wishes. I have decided that I will fulfill your wishes and that I will not leave Czech politics, but that I will try to continue to be with you, with your concerns and with your needs, as a simple Czech citizen,” wrote Zeman on the social network Facebook.

Zeman left the presidential post following ten years in March of last year, when he was replaced at Prague Castle by President Petr Pavel. Since then, the ex-president has been working in his Dejvice office. Last week, he warmly welcomed, for example, the vice-president of the ANO movement and former finance minister Alena Schillerová, before he was joined by the prime ministers of Slovakia, Robert Fico, and Viktor Orbán, of Hungary.

Seventy-nine-year-old Zeman has been hospitalized in the university hospital in Prague’s Motol since last week. A routine check-up revealed critical hypoperfusion of the lower limb, which was treated surgically. The resulting swelling was surgically resolved with fasciotomies, in which doctors cut the coverings of the muscles to allow the swelling to subside. After an operation in which a blood clot was removed and an angioplasty of the arteries of the lower limb was performed, he remains hospitalized.

Zeman has been suffering from lower limb neuropathy and related diabetes for a long time. The president has been confined to a wheelchair for a long time and only manages to walk with difficulty.
