Zelenskyy claims Russia is planning attacks on Ukrainian nuclear power plants

Zelenskyy made the claim in a speech at the UN General Assembly on Wednesday.

He said that Russian President Vladimir Putin is sitting on detailed information about Ukrainian nuclear facilities and that the purpose is to inflict suffering on the Ukrainian population and force the country to surrender.

– Recently I received another alarming report from our intelligence. Putin appears to be planning attacks against nuclear facilities and infrastructure, with the help of information from satellites from other countries. Russia gets photos and detailed information about our nuclear power plants, Zelenskyy said.

– Such a day must never come

The president pointed out that Russia has previously attacked Ukrainian energy infrastructure by hitting hydropower plants. Now Putin’s intention is for the nuclear facilities to be disconnected from the power grid, Zelenskyj further claimed.

– Such a day must never come. Moscow must understand this, and this partly depends on their determination to put pressure on the aggressive party, Zelenskyy said from the podium, addressing the UN member states in the hall.

– If, God forbid, Russia triggers a nuclear disaster at one of our nuclear power plants, radiation will not respect national borders, said the Ukrainian president.

Criticism of China and Brazil

In the speech, he criticized a proposal by China and Brazil to end the war by entering into talks with Russia, and questioned the real motives.

– You must not be allowed to strengthen your power at the expense of Ukraine, Zelenskyj said.

– When someone proposes alternatives, half-hearted reconciliation plans, so-called sets of principles, it not only ignores the interests and suffering among Ukrainians, it not only ignores reality, but it also gives Putin the political space needed to continue the war, Zelenskyj said.

– The Ukrainians will never accept why anyone in the world believes that such a brutal colonial past, which is not appropriate for anyone today, can be imposed on Ukraine now, said the president.
