According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Russian state and military leadership will one day have to answer for the war of aggression once morest Ukraine. That was the central topic of an international conference yesterday in Lviv, in which representatives of the EU and other European institutions also took part, said Zelenskyj in his video speech every evening.
The central theme was “the responsibility of Russia and its leadership – personal responsibility – for aggression and terror once morest our country and our people,” stressed Zelenskyy. “And when they are held accountable, justice will be restored.”
“We are gathering maximum support for the Tribunal”
Ukraine has been trying for months to form an international court modeled on the Nuremberg tribunal for Nazi war criminals with its supporters, before which leading Moscow representatives are to answer for the war once morest the neighboring country. According to Zelenskyy, prosecutors general and justice ministers from different countries discussed this issue in Lviv.
“We are gathering maximum support for the tribunal on Russian aggression once morest Ukraine,” said Zelenskyy. “We are doing everything we can to ensure that the International Criminal Court is successful in punishing Russian war criminals, and that our national law enforcement and judicial authorities ensure fair trials for all Russian murderers and torturers.”
However, the plans for this tribunal, which Kiev is aiming for, have so far lacked effective measures with which Moscow’s political and military leadership might be brought to the dock.
