Zelensky: Ukraine Needs a Strong Military and NATO Invitation for Peace Talks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has spoken out against freezing the conflict in his country, emphasizing the need for a strong Ukrainian military and a NATO invitation as essential conditions for any peace negotiations.
In recent talks with international leaders, Zelensky firmly stated that Ukraine desires peace above all else, emphasizing that a diplomatic resolution would save lives. “Putin does not want this war to end, so he has to be forced. This will be possible only if Ukraine is strong,” Zelensky declared, outlining his vision for Ukraine’s future.
“A strong Ukraine is a condition before any diplomacy. It is an army that is strong on the battlefield. It is packages with weapons and so on,” Zelenskiy stressed. He specifically called for advanced long-range missile systems, including ATACMS, Taurus, Storm Shadow, and Scalp, which he deems crucial for safeguarding Ukrainian territory.
In addition to military strength, Zelensky argues that Ukraine needs binding security guarantees as a prerequisite for engaging in peace talks.
“Right now we cannot be in NATO, but we can be invited to join NATO,” Zelensky asserted, indicating his intention to persuade U.S. President Joe Biden to support such an invitation. He believes that a formal invitation to join NATO would provide Ukraine with the necessary deterrents and assurances to participate in meaningful peace negotiations.
