  • On the twelfth day of fighting, the Russian army continues its all-out offensive in Ukrainebombarding in particular the second city of the country, Kharkiv, and trying to encircle the capital, Kiev.
  • In Irpin, on the outskirts of Kiev, eight people who tried to flee the fighting by road were killed, Sunday, according to the mayor of the city. Vladimir Putin has “denied that his army was targeting civilians”reports the Elysée, following a new telephone conversation, Sunday, between the French president, Emmanuel Macron, and his Russian counterpart.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday that Russian forces were preparing to bombard the city of Odessa, located in the south of the country, regarding fifty kilometers from the border with Moldova. He said in an evening video that Western sanctions once morest Russia were not enough in the face of the “sense of impunity of the invaders”and that Ukraine would hunt down all those responsible “atrocities”.
  • The second attempt to evacuate residents of Mariupol, a strategic port in southeastern Ukraine, failed on Sunday, the day following a first unsuccessful attempt, due to continued intense shelling. Russians and Ukrainians accuse each other of having failed to establish a humanitarian corridor.
  • A third round of talks between Ukraine and Russia is scheduled for today, according to a member of the Ukrainian delegation, David Arakhamia, who did not give further details.
  • Ukraine is today pleading once morest Russia before the International Court of Justice. To justify its invasion, Moscow claims to have wanted to avoid a “genocide” in the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, a qualification that Kiev disputes.
  • More than 4,600 people demonstrating once morest the military intervention in Ukraine were arrested on Sunday in 65 cities in Russia, said the NGO OVD-Info, which specializes in monitoring the demonstrations. This brings to more than 13,000 the number of protesters arrested since the start of the Russian military operation on February 24.
  • According to the UN, 1.5 million people fled Ukraine in ten days. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, says it is “of the fastest growing refugee crisis in Europe since World War II”.
