Players of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can freely roam the open map of Hyrule, and discover its secrets. It is possible to gather different armors, which will allow Link to face bad weather, or to climb more easily. If there is one that makes players laugh (thanks to its original appearance), it’s Tingle’s outfit.
Scattered all over Hyrule, Tingle’s outfit is among the most unusual in this latest installment. Once the three pieces are put on, Link gains a special bonus to his movement speed at night. But Tingle is above all a middle-aged man, who seems to terrify all of Hyrule. It is certainly one of the strangest NPCs that players have had the opportunity to meet in the games of the license. But then, what secret does her outfit hold?
NPCs are terrified of Tingle, but why?
When Link is wearing Tingle’s outfit (in TOTK as in BOTW) the reaction of the NPCs is not positive at all. Most characters look terrified when they see Link in Tingle’s outfit. Surely because they think they see the man coming, when it is the hero of Hyrule.
In some cases, when an NPC is holding a weapon in their hands, they will even point their weapon at Link if they are wearing the entire outfit in question. The players were therefore intrigued by these totally disproportionate reactions. Would they know something we don’t know regarding this mysterious Tingle?
Tingle has a dark history
Although the strange character of Tingle was introduced in Majora’s Mask, the most terrifying part of his story can be seen in The Wind Waker. Tingle has his own story arc there, and will find himself at the top of a tower, with two other individuals who look like him. Alongside Tingle are his Tingle brother, Ankle (in pink) and David Jr. (in white). The latter has no family ties with the Tingle brothers, but would have ended up on their island following going to sea in the hope of finding his deceased father. If the player talks to David Jr, he says: “When I woke up, I was dressed like this”.
In this opus, David Jr. will describe Tingle as “crazy in green”, almost insinuating that he wishes Link would help him escape the island. On this one, he works hard for the two brothers, and is not allowed to leave his white uniform. Would the NPCs of Hyrule know regarding this dark passion of Tingle, which consists in disguising the people stranded on his island as copies of himself? One thing’s for sure, you’ll never see Tingle’s outfit the same way once more!
