Zelda: Ocarina of Time Port completed

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was programmed from scratch and is already the second Nintendo 64 Video game that can be played on all modern platforms such as PC or Steamdeck. Another 25 titles are on the way. With the reprogramming no copyright of Nintendo get injured.

No copyright infringement – how is that possible?

Since the titles have been completely recreated, there does not seem to be any infringement of the law. No content such as codes or other components of the originals were used. This is a bit difficult to understand, but that seems to be the legal situation here. Hence the whole effort of the developers.

Already the second port

A replica of Super Mario 64 was completed in 2019 and has been available ever since. This seems to confirm that no copyright is being violated in this elaborate way. Players must use a custom rom version of their own copy of the game to launch the title. The software then takes over all audios, character models, and textures. The new code ensures a smooth PC version.

Who is doing this?

The classics were painstakingly recreated by larger teams. Despite many setbacks, but due to the specific nature of the programming, they never gave up. Such a development can take years. But thanks to the effort of these temas you can forever Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time experience on all current and upcoming platforms and modding at will.

Der Status Quo

Even if you with the Port of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time the country Hyrule can save once more, the whole project is not over yet. The status quo is the original Nintendo 64 Status. However, an ultra-widescreen view is possible, support for keyboards and gyroscope targets.

What can you do with it?

From now on, for the developers of the port and every hobby programmer out there, the big modding can begin. The fans will probably be even more than with the port of Super Mario 64 get out. For example, realistic light effects depending on the time of day through ray tracing, high-resolution models and textures, animations at 60 frames per second, realistic water, removing annoying fog and having a wider view over long distances. Camera control with two sticks, as well as Mac and Linux support will also follow. After 25 years, you can get a lot out of the video game classic without changing the core of the game.
