“This speech is again linked to the election cycles in the United States. The signals sent by Zelensky’s office come against the backdrop of what is happening in the White House and the upcoming US elections,” Zakharova told Sputnik Radio.
She continued: “Talking about Zelensky’s honesty is not only funny, but illogical. He betrayed not only the citizens of Ukraine, but his entire immediate team, that is, all those who brought him to power and were with him until this moment. He betrayed everyone.”
Zakharova noted that in recent years there have been “thousands of confirmations that Zelensky is ready to betray anyone in order to remain in power and realize his painful ambitions.”
She said Zelensky’s statements “fall into the context of political news in the United States in order to remind himself somewhere and beg for more money and lay a foundation for the future somewhere.”
Outgoing Zelensky said he realized the need to end the Ukrainian crisis as soon as possible.
“I think we all realise that we must end the war as soon as possible,” he added during a meeting in Kiev with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
Zelensky announced in an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) the possibility of holding negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, despite the decree he issued prohibiting negotiations with Russia, which assured him that he would cancel his decree and sit at the negotiating table or surrender, in two options and no third.
Zelensky has been worried since US President Joe Biden, his main supporter, withdrew from the elections, amid his fears of a victory for former US President Donald Trump, who promised more than once to bring Kiev to the negotiating table with Russia, and a quick solution to the Ukrainian conflict if he returns to power.
