Russia – The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the report of the UN expert group on sanctions once morest North Korea, which visited Ukraine to study allegations regarding Russia’s use of Korean missiles, is based on fabricated data.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova indicated in a statement, on Thursday, that “before the experts’ work was completed, their trip to Kiev was urgently organized… to examine the debris of the missile that the Kiev authorities say fell on Kharkov on January 2, allegedly.” After several days, they signed a large report, in which they did not see any substantive or objective action.”
She added that the report “conveys the conclusions that were prepared in advance by the Ukrainian side and its Western sponsors, which they needed, which were hostile to Pyongyang, as expected, and with hints prepared especially to harm Russia.”
Zakharova considered that “the immediate leaking of the report to the Western press was also expected” and was intended to influence public opinion.
Zakharova pointed out that the experts’ trip “was organized more than 3 months following the supposed incident, and apparently this time was used to fabricate the material basis and draft the text that included the previously decided conclusions,” which was scheduled to be “submitted later as an independent study carried out by the United Nations.”
The spokeswoman stressed that this story “confirms the lack of independence and bias of the team specializing in sanctions once morest North Korea, and therefore the correctness of our decision to end its work,” adding that “future attempts to revive it are futile.”
It is noteworthy that Reuters published leaks from a report that it said was submitted by experts to the UN Security Council Committee on Sanctions. The report claimed that Russia used missiles made in North Korea in the military operation in Ukraine, noting that the debris found in Ukraine belonged to a “Hwasong 11” missile.
It should be noted that the mandate of the UN Group of Experts on sanctions once morest North Korea expired on April 30. Before that, Russia used its veto power once morest the American draft resolution on extending the powers of the team.
