Vienna (OTS) Because of the release of climate activist Anja Windl, ÖVP General Secretary Christian Stocker recently accused the Green Justice Minister Alma Zadić of intervening in the form of instructions. On “Milborn” (broadcast today at 9:15 p.m. on Joyn, PULS 24 and puls24.at), the Justice Minister counters: “This is an attack on the judiciary.” Stocker accuses the judiciary of “political action and I honestly don’t think that’s okay in a democratic country.” She suspects the approaching election campaign as a motive.

As a lawyer, Stocker “actually needs to know how the system works.” A complaint once morest the regional court would have had no “chances of success,” said Zadić. The technical supervision in the Ministry of Justice came to the conclusion that Zadić had followed this decision and had not given any political instructions.

When asked whether ÖVP National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka, once morest whom the economic and corruption public prosecutor’s office is investigating, should resign, Zadić said: “If I were him, I would vacate the National Council President’s chair.” But she doesn’t want to make any recommendations to parliament.

Zadić also sees contradiction among his coalition partners when it comes to the Constitutional Court’s (VfGh) decision to confiscate cell phones. According to the VfGh, securing cell phones without judicial approval is unconstitutional.

ÖVP Interior Minister Gerhard Karner now wants a reform of the law, which should also include a constitutionally compliant monitoring option for messenger services. However, mass surveillance without cause is unacceptable to them. “I have not yet seen any possibility from the Interior Minister that would intervene in a cell phone in accordance with the constitution,” emphasizes Zadić. Monitoring is currently only possible with the help of a federal Trojan, i.e. software that is used on data carriers without the knowledge of those affected.

The coalition climate is likely to be tense. Zadić simply says: “Another ministry is responsible for the climate.”
