The Minister of Family and Social Cohesion, Sofia Zaharakis, speaking to SKAI on Friday morning he stated the following: “In all countries we see the average fertility rate plummeting, even in those investing billions to address demographics.”
He added thatDemography is not only an economic issuebut also choices or lifestyle changes regarding childbearing, while regarding the measures and the collective plan that the government is considering, it stated:
“We are preparing and updating from 2022 a National Strategy that reaches 2.3 billion euros, such as the “My Home” loan program. More than 6,988 couples have already paid off their loan and taken their home. By the end of the year, this number will have risen to 9,155, as our goal is to expand the age group as well.”
“We will finance homes and businesses for people with disabilities”
At the same time, Mrs. Zaharaki informed that in the next few days the updated Housing & Employment program will be published, while improvement practices are also expected in “Renovating-Renting”.
“When we talk about demographics, we also mean an increase in nursery schools, where over 173,000 vouchers will be given and over 11,000 children will be in a nursery, with the coverage also covering every child with a disability. At the moment we have 1,000 personal assistants, with the intention of the Prime Minister to be the horizontal application without an electronic lottery”, emphasized the minister.
Finally, he noted that the ministry will allocate a significant amount so that more than 3,000 homes of people with disabilities can be renovated with minor interventions, while private businesses will also be financed. “We will also create a program for 200 people on the autism spectrum to enter the workplace,” he informed in conclusion.
