ST. PETERSBURG – In his third start following a brief stint on the disabled list, Zach Eflin pitched a gem in the Rays’ finale game once morest the Pirates on Thursday followingnoon.
The right-hander struck out 10 and allowed just two hits over seven scoreless innings in Tampa Bay’s win by 3-2 at Tropicana Field.
That victory sealed the sixth sweep so far this year for a Rays team and improved their record to 26-6 in 2023, a mark no team had reached in the first 32 games of a season since the Tigers 1984 began with a record of 27-5.
The Rays have won all five of Eflin’s starts so far this season.
