Żabka is already 25 years old. On this anniversary, three unique stores will be added to the chain’s portfolio.

Posen, Poland (ots/PRNewswire) 25 years ago, seven experimental Żabka stores were opened in Poznań and Swarzędz. They were intended as a practical alternative to the increasingly common large format chains. A quarter of a century later, Żabka is one of the most dynamically developing retail chains in Europe, relying on new technologies, being socially committed and environmentally conscious.

Today, the Żabka brand is recognized by 93% of consumers, and the chain’s nearly 10,000 stores have become an integral part of the landscape. Currently, Żabka is not just a shop, but a mini-trade and service center – including the largest chain of cafes, ATMs, post offices or lottery acceptance points. She opens up new places and creates new store formats, paying attention to innovation in each one. Żabka invests in modern logistics – in the year of its 25th anniversary, it opened one of the most modern logistics centers in Europe – a fully automated logistics center in Radzymin near Warsaw. Żabka also supports Polish entrepreneurship – currently more than 8,600 franchisees work with the chain. Together with them, it provides almost 60,000 jobs. The chain also contributes to the development of the service sector, supports Polish suppliers and start-ups, is a responsible employer and an incubator for modern solutions and innovative products.

1998 – der erste Żabka

The first Żabka branch with the characteristic drawn frog on a yellow background in the logo was opened in Swarzędz near Poznań. It was a time when more and more supermarket and hypermarket chains were entering the Polish market. The market lacked small local shops. This gap should be closed by a new Polish chain.

TOP 10 in Poland

In 2010, Żabka already had more than 2,350 stores and became the largest convenience chain in Central and Eastern Europe, which also made it into the TOP 10 largest retail chains in Poland. Two years later, the Żabka Café-Food Zone appeared in stores, along with the eventual king and queen of hot snacks – the hot dog and takeaway coffee.

2015 – The Great Little Shop

Already operating around 4,500 stores, Żabka began a format transformation – changing the store layout, adding innovative equipment, followed by a new product range, convenient services and a new, smiling logo. The campaign “The Great Little Shop” was also launched at that time, which talked about conventional everyday life in an unconventional way and won the hearts of Polish customers.

Founding of Żabka Group

In 2021, the Żabka Group was founded, and with the addition of Maczfit, dietly, Żabka Jush and Delio, the chain dynamically entered various digital areas. In the same year, the first Żabka Nano was launched and expansion accelerated: Żabka invested in unique solutions and opened an average of more than 1,000 stores per year.

Research shows that a lack of free time prevents consumers from pursuing their passions and is a source of stress. In response, Żabka launched a new campaign in 2022 that shows how it helps its customers overcome this challenge through its proximity, tailored products and convenient shopping process; She shows how she simplifies their lives and gives them time by accompanying her customers every moment of the day.

2023 – our 25th anniversary

Żabka strives for new places and creates innovative formats. On the occasion of the company’s 25th anniversary, three new, unique stores will be added to the portfolio: store number 10,000 in the Stary Browar shopping center in Poznań with an innovative solution – Robbie the robot who prepares hot dogs for customers; a hybrid store in Warsaw that combines a traditional outlet with an autonomous Żabka Nano; and Żabka Drive in Piaseczno, where drivers can do quick shopping without leaving their car.
