POZNAN, Poland, May 2 /PRNewswire/ — The Żabka Group has inaugurated its state-of-the-art automated logistics center in Radzymin near Warsaw, capable of supplying around 3,500 stores. This facility is the largest and most technologically advanced addition to the Żabka Group’s logistics infrastructure.

“This is one of the most modern logistics centers in Europe, the largest investment in Żabka’s history and a jewel in the crown of our logistics,” said Adam Manikowski, Vice President of the Board of Directors of Żabka Group and Managing Director of Żabka Poland, at a meeting with journalists .

“The facility stands for innovation, modernity and dynamic development and is what defines Zabka,” stressed Manikowski.

The logistics center can deliver products for around 3,500 stores. The project also envisages the possibility of expanding and further automating the warehouse so that it can serve up to 5,000 stores.

The facility covers an impressive area of 60,000 square meters and was built using the BTS (Build-to-Suit) method, tailoring it to Żabka’s individual needs.

In addition to the so-called dry part, there is an automatic high-bay warehouse with a height of almost 40 meters. The warehouse can hold up to 30,000 pallets.

“Technological progress is a pillar of the overall development strategy of the Żabka Group, and the commissioning of the logistics center in Radzymin as one of the most modern automated logistics centers in Europe confirms this once more. The approximately 60,000 square meter warehouse is of strategic importance for us. Żabka is celebrating this year its 25th anniversary, so the timing of the opening is not random. It clearly reflects our determination to ensure the company’s sustainable development in the long term,” says Tomasz Suchanski, CEO of the Żabka Group.

As Adam Manikowski further reports, the logistics center has, among other things, an automated internal transport system, a pallet silo and goods-to-person picking stations, which according to the company guarantee a multiple increase in operational efficiency.

“Over 70 percent of all deliveries will be automatic,” said the vice president.

The new logistics center was designed to be energy efficient. PV panels were installed on the roof of the building and the parking lot was covered with an anti-smog coating. The idea of preserving biodiversity was already taken into account during the construction phase. The planting was carried out in accordance with BREEAM requirements (trees, shrubs, flower meadows, etc.), giving the building an “excellent” rating in the BREEAM certification for international new construction.

The new center will offer up to 600 jobs. “The center is a milestone. It not only allows us to maintain our dynamic pace of growth, but also allows us to open more than 1,000 stores per year,” added the Vice President.

Żabka’s logistics network includes 8 logistics centers from which goods are distributed to stores throughout Poland and 19 transhipment terminals. In addition, Żabka cooperates with a network of carriers that annually deliver over 2 million orders to more than 9,400 stores. More than 80 percent of Żabka stores use logistic services every other day.

According to the Vice-President, the Żabka branch number 10,000 is expected to open in the autumn of this year.
